Traceability and calibration training for Bangladesh Meteorological Department staff (2024)

On 5, 6, 9 and 10 December 2024, three technical staff from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) underwent training on meteorological instruments at WMO/RIC Tsukuba and Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) headquarters. The initiative represented part of the "Strengthening the Capacity of Weather and Climate Services" project conducted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Trainees learned about instrument traceability, viewed the RIC Tsukuba calibration facility, experienced calibration of thermometers, barometers and rain gauges, observed a barometer inspection, and were instructed on AWS maintenance. These efforts are expected to help improve the quality of BMD weather services.
